The Future Metrology Hub has been working closely with patient care equipment supplier Innova Care Concepts to conduct new research into the effectiveness of pressure care equipment in healthcare.
Having worked with Innova for some time now, the research team tested the company’s own pressure care range of mattresses and pumps to make sure that they were providing patients with the right level of support and comfort.
Innova’s Sales Director and Pressure Care Specialist Joe Hulbert said:
“It’s been a real privilege to work with the University of Huddersfield with their studies. It’s great for us to be working toward a common goal of eradicating pressure injuries in healthcare.
“Not only has this given us as equipment suppliers actual evidence that our products are at the cutting-edge of research and technology, but it’s also allowed us to further improve our mattresses and carry-out continuous product development with expert opinions and input.”
On an annual basis, it’s estimated that pressure injuries cost the NHS over £3.8 million. These injuries are caused when patients cannot move for long periods of time and eventually lose oxygen supply to their skin, causing open wounds to form. These are incredibly painful and expensive to treat.
By carrying out this research, the University and Innova hope to find new ways to improve pressure care equipment that will prevent pressure injuries from ever occurring in the first place.
